The Americans won their home opener against the
Sun 11-7. Larry Matson handled the play-by-play
while former University of Alabama great Fred
Sington provided color commentary.
On
the second play of the fourth quarter, Americans
cornerback Steve Williams intercepted a Tony
Adam's pass and returned it 45-yards for the
tying touchdown.
For the action point, Americans quarterback
George Mira threw a pass to halfback Paul
Robinson.

with the catch.

Americans vs Hawaii Hawaiians - 11/27/1974
The Americans first post-season game pitted them
against the Hawaiians in Birmingham. The
Americans won the game 22-19. The sole
commentator is Mel Proctor of the Hawaiians
radio network.
Midway
through the first quarter, the Americans first
points were set up by a 27-yard punt return by
split end Alfred Jenkins. The Americans would
score within three plays, with fullback Charlie
Harraway going the final two yards for the
touchdown.
In
the third quarter, quarterback Matthew Reed came
in for the struggling George Mira. The third
play of the drive was a 32-yard touchdown bullet
to Jenkins from Reed.
The
Americans scored the winning points on their
next possession. The drive was a time-consuming
94-yards in nineteen plays. Reed scored on a
3-yard roll-out at right end.
